Next Wednesday, October 28, 2015, is National Chocolate Day. This is a most sacred day in my house because I love chocolate! My all-time favorite dessert is chocolate mousse, but I’m also a fan of chocolate cake, truffles, ice cream, pudding, cupcakes, cookies, pastries . . . really, anything with chocolate. This means I would celebrate National Chocolate Day regardless, but what makes it even more fun is, because God is all good and profoundly loving, there is a direct connection between chocolate and prayer beads!

Chocolate and prayer beads! As I’ve written before, the oldest known rosary on record belonged to Lady Godiva. Yes, THAT Lady Godiva. The one who, according to folklore, rode naked through town on a horse with only her long, flowing blonde hair to cover her. Crazy, right? Not if you know the real story, or at least, the story that has been handed down over the past 900 years. As the legend goes, that ride was an act of deep compassion, pure courage, and profound faith. We should all know it and share it.

Indeed, Godiva, the chocolatier, has a program designed to honor Lady Godiva’s brave act by donating a portion of its sales to nonprofits founded by women. Well done, Godiva. Of course, the other thing Godiva does well is make chocolate. Redeeming a woman’s good name and creating delicious truffles means Godiva has a special place in my heart.

Thus, in honor of National Chocolate Day, I want to give away a $25 Godiva gift card! To enter, post a picture of your prayer beads and chocolate to Twitter (@prayerworksnews), Instagram (@prayerworksstudio), or Facebook (Prayerworks Studio). Tag your photos with the following hashtags: #pwsbeads and #chocolate. Do this by next Friday, October 30, 2015. We will choose one winner at random, and announce the winner and share photos on Monday, November 2nd.

Enjoy your chocolate, and as you do, thank Lady Godiva for being a model of courage, faith, and compassion.
