Prayerworks Studio is family-owned by Kristen, Max, and Matthew. For each of us, our journey in prayer began as young people, shaped by the church. Then a few years ago, Kristen experienced a calling to make prayer beads. She listened, ultimately learning about Protestant (Anglican) prayer beads. We have been surrounded by beads ever since. Our greatest joy is in talking with people about prayer and the many ways they can connect with God. We all agree we have the best jobs ever.
Kristen E. Vincent is the Owner and Principal Artisan of Prayerworks Studio. She is also the award-winning author of A Bead and a Prayer: A Beginner’s Guide to Protestant Prayer Beads (Upper Room Books, 2013), and coauthor of Another Bead, Another Prayer: Devotions for Use with Protestant Prayer Beads (Upper Room Books, 2014). Kristen travels extensively to speak and lead retreats on prayer and prayer beads and has a Master of Theological Studies from Duke Divinity School. She is a graduate of The Upper Room’s two-year Academy for Spiritual Formation (Academy #34). Kristen loves dark chocolate, gadgets, and the mountains. She remains committed to her lifelong quest for the perfect chocolate mousse.

Matthew is our son who serves as Chief Inspirational Officer of Prayerworks Studio. He loves soccer, Xbox, drawing, and history. He helps out in the Studio and often travels with his parents to talk with people about prayer and prayer beads. As such, he is developing a deep sense of God’s presence in his life. He has a quick wit, solid rhythm (he won the 2011 dance contest at his school), and makes the world’s most decadent brownies.
Barbara Johnson is the owner of Sacred Spaces, which creates the gorgeous, handmade prayer cards featured in our Studio. She is also Kristen’s mom! Barbara works for Baylor College of Medicine. She loves cooking, the opera and ballet, calligraphy, good coffee, and Downton Abbey.

She is very active in her community as a board member of her local modern quilt guild and Cadette Girl Scout Troop Leader. She also enjoys a wide variety of interests including kayaking, traveling, art exhibitions, reading, cycling with her family, watching Sherlock (UK) and The Big Bang Theory, and going on culinary adventures.
